See Miss Saigon at the Owen Theatre in Conroe

Those looking for a taste of theater are in luck.  The musical, Miss Saigon will be performed by the Crighton Players at the Owen Theatre at 225 Collins St. in Conroe.

The musical is set during the Vietnam War and tells the tale of an American GI and a young girl in Saigon.  Claude-Michel Schonberg composed the musical score with lyrics by Alain Boubil and Richard Maltby, Jr.  The musical was nominated for 11 Tony awards and has a captivating love story and musical score and envelopes the audience within its world.
 
The story of Miss Saigon revolves around an American soldier during the Vietnam war named Chris and a young barmaid, Kim.  Their love blossoms during the end of the war.  The story is one of the traditional star-crossed lovers who pledge to be together even though their countries won't allow it.  The musical spans years of their lives as the musical score sweeps and tells the tale of their drama.

 
"I think it is a musical masterpiece.  It's absolutely fabulous," states Marty Craig, local director.  "The story is a reflection on our history of what happened during the last days of the Vietnam War and fall of Saigon."  She also added, "The story is a classic love story," and that "The people who put this show together are the same ones that did 'Les Miserables,' and the music is indicative of that. It's dramatic, exciting, thrilling music."
 
Miss Saigon is currently being performed by the Crighton Players on Friday and Saturday nights at 8pm.  The scheduled dates are August 21, 22, 28 and 29, and September 4 and 5.  Special Sunday matinee dates will be at 2pm on August 23, 30 and September 6.  Tickets on sale are $20 for adults, and $15 for children under 12.  Group discounts are also available.  Tickets may also be purchased at the Owen Theatre Box Office by phone at (936) 539-4090.  More information is also available at the Crighton Players website.
