The South Montgomery County YMCA's Healthy Kids Days will be held from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM on April 28 at the South Montgomery County YMCA, located at 6464 Creekside Forest Drive. 

According to a press release, the event will feature an open house, tours, face painting, moonwalk, finger painting, arts and crafts, Alpine Tower, moonwalk, water slide, climbing wall, demos, community booths, mascots, giveaways, games, screenings, health and safety fair, kite making, outdoor education, eco-art, summer program registrations, pony rides, door prizes, refreshments, music and more. The first 300 kids in attendance will receive a Healthy Kids Day T-shirt.

Visitors will also get the chance to sign up for summer programs such as day camp, swim lessons, youth sports, sports clinics, teen camp, child care, performing arts and more. Participants will receive a free gift for signing up for summer programs. New members who sign up will receive 50% off the joining fee.


Conroe's First Annual Crawfish Festival

Conroe’s 1st Annual Crawfish & Music Festival, a highly anticipated event for the community, will be held April 28 beginning at 11 AM at The Conroe Sparkle. There will be hundreds of pounds of crawfish, cold beer, and great live music! These local musicians range from country to Motown. The musical line up includes:

St. Luke's Hospital Receives Best Practice Award

Recently, St. Luke’s Hospital was honored with the Best Practice Award by Comprehensive Pharmacy Services for the third consecutive time. The hospital was given the award based on its score of 95% or greater on the CPS annual operational audit. CPS offers all hospital services including behavioral health, acute care, many variations of pharmacy operations and LTAC.

According to the press release, RN, PhD, assistant vice president and chief nursing officer at the hospital Peg Reiter said, "We are honored to once again be recognized for our performance by the Comprehensive Pharmacy Services organization."

As the nation's leading pharmacy services provider, Comprehensive Pharmacy Services partners with more than 300 hospitals in 46 states and employs more than 1,600 professionals in the pharmacy field.


VFW Honors Local Businesses

According to their website, the VFW's voice had been instrumental in establishing the Veterans Administration, creating a GI bill for the 20th century, the development of the national cemetery system and the fight for compensation for Vietnam vets exposed to Agent Orange and for veterans diagnosed with Gulf War Syndrome.

In 2008, VFW won a long-fought victory with the passing of a GI Bill for the 21st Century, giving expanded educational benefits to America's active-duty service members, and members of the Guard and Reserves, fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Annually, the 2.1 million members of the VFW and its Auxiliary contribute more than 11 million hours of volunteerism in the community, including participation in Make A Difference Day and National Volunteer Week. They currently provide over $3 million in college scholarships and savings bonds to students every year, to encouraging elevation of the Department of Veterans Affairs to the president's cabinet, the VFW is there.


Rodeo Houston Hosts Prestigious Horse Shows

According to Rodeo Houston, one of the most prestigious horse shows in the world will fill Reliant Arena with top-notch horses. From cutting competitions and Ranch Rodeo events to breed shows and team penning, there is always a competition to be seen in Reliant Arena.

Children's Museum Announces "Spring BreaKation"

The Children's Museum, 4775 W. Panther Creek Drive #280 will hold its annual Spring BreaKation from March 12-16. The camp is for ages 4 to 11 years old and offers art, science, and robotic classes. Crazy Art Camp: For children ages 4 & 5 years old. 

Be amazed at the wacky sculptures that can result from combining everyday found objects. Children will experiment with different recipes for play dough and make pinch pots from high quality air-dry clay while embellishing with color and found objects. Things can get a little wild during the tactile experience of various art mediums. 

ARTrageous Camp: For children ages 5 to 8 yearls old. Creating a new project everyday using various mediums, such as watercolor, gouache, acrylic painting, printmaking, clay and mixed media collage, the young artist serious about love for art and having fun will journey through art to experience a high-energy, interactive hands-on approach to art, language and culture. 


Grogan Mills Farmers Market is Now Open Year-Round

The Grogan Mill Farmers Market is now open every Saturday from 8 AM until noon. Traditionally, farmers markets are the oldest form of farmers selling directly to the public. Over the last ten years farmers markets have made a huge impact on Americans and their way of shopping by encouraging buying local products and promoting sustainability.

Friends of Montgomery County Texas Animal Shelter is a non profit group, 330 Rayford Road, Suite 114 that will be hosting a fundraiser this Valentine’s Day weekend. The group will be wrapping all Valentine’s Day gifts at the mall February 10th through the 14th.

The wrapping station will be located in the center of the mall; small gifts start at $3 per gift and large gifts cost $6 per gift. All proceeds go directly to the shelter, treating the sick or injured animals of Montgomery County. The Mall is located at 1201 Lake Woodland Drive.

According to their press release, the organization also has an active foster program where a homeless cat or dog is taken into a home until it is adopted. To learn more or donate visit their homepage.


The John Cooper School let’s the students pick a charity for each month of the year. This month two of the school’s outstanding students volunteered to organize this month’s charity project, "Good Soles Shoe and Sock Donation Drive".

The students, Iker and Pamela Pimienta partnered with local podiatrist Dr. Robert E Neville & Associates. This “Good Souls” benefit drive will collect socks and shoes for needing families. The benefit drive in years past, have collected over 700 pairs of shoes and socks. The students will work with Dr. Neville to collect donations through January 31st.

Charities that have benefited from the drive in the past include United Way of Greater Houston, Montgomery County Women’s Center, the Knights of Columbus, Moms Helping Moms and Project Hope.


Donate to this year’s “Share Your Holidays” food drive at the Montgomery County Courthouse. The food drive will benefit over 31,000 requests for food during the month of December.

The drop of sites will be held on Friday December 9th, however donations maybe made at anytime at the Montgomery County Food Bank. Donations can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Brookshire Brothers, 18535 FM 1488 in Magnolia; from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kroger in Willis, I-45 and FM 1097; and from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Montgomery County Courthouse, 1301 N. Thompson in Conroe. There will be volunteers at each site so donors can “drop and drive”.

Local school children will sing holiday selections at the Courthouse from 9am until 2pm. Donations can be made year round at the Montgomery County Food Bank warehouse, 111 South 2nd Street from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Monetary donations can be made online.
